Literally translated, Feng Shui would be wind and water. But historically, it’s the art of arranging buildings, objects, space and life to obtain harmony and balance. Feng Shui believes that the world is driven by unseen forces. We need to unblock the way so that these forces can flow freely and create a balance in our spaces/lives.
Here a few ways in which one can unblock the unseen forces to ensure they are inviting peace and prosperity to their house:
Both air and light are essential feng shui elements. It is important to ensure that there is enough air and light that flow through the rooms in your house. Always open your windows and make sure there’s as much natural light flooding in, as possible. Adding plants is also a good way to purify the air and give the space that you live in life.
With neutral colours, and maybe touches of greens, lavenders, blues, peaches and other soothing tones of colours will help you be in a calm state of mind. However, since all colours are not for everyone, you would have to figure out which colours you feel happiest being surrounded by. That would be the colour for you, to create the space you can just chill in.
Feng Shui says that keeping mirrors inside the house would bring good luck. It could restrict the flow of negative energy inside and around the house. It is always good to place a mirror facing the entrance door to reflect the positive energy.
Water is one of the key elements of Feng Shui and it just happens to represent wealth. One of your major concerns would be where the bathroom is placed in your home. Ideally, you would not want any of your money being flushed away. What we suggest to reduce this effect is, keep your toilet seats down and always keep the bathroom doors closed.
In Feng Shui, music has a positive and soothing effect. Too quiet a house would have an abundance of yin i.e. passive energy, making everyone in your home unwell. So in order to get the yang energy or the good energy flowing - play gentle music for a minimum of ten minutes once a week, for a few months. You’ll eventually definitely see a permanent improvement in your energy if you keep doing this.
Finally, your home is where you will live. There is nothing wrong with wanting to create that space for yourself where you are free from worries, and there’s only goodness and love, good chi. It’s about making your home your safest and happiest space.
Remember with Feng Shui, it’s all about letting the unseen forces flow through peacefully. When you build a home that you always want to spend time in, feel good in, you will feel relaxed, and filled with inspiration to move towards your hopes and dreams.
